A Low-Producing Well Doesn’t Always Mean Starting Over.

Before drilling another well, hydrofracking may be worth considering.

What Is Hydrofracking?

In North Georgia, many water wells are drilled into hard crystalline bedrock. The water supplying these wells moves through natural fractures, joints, and other openings in the rock — not through a large underground lake.

When those fractures don’t allow enough water to move into the well, the well may not produce enough to keep up with the property’s water needs. That can happen with an older existing well or with a newly drilled well that simply came in low.

Hydrofracking — also called water-well hydrofracturing — uses high-pressure water to open or widen existing fractures in the bedrock around the well, creating more opportunity for groundwater to move through those fractures and into the well. It is a water well service and is not the same as oil and gas fracking.

North Georgia wells are drilled into hard bedrock, where water moves through natural fractures instead of a large underground reservoir. When those fractures don’t let enough water through, the well may not keep up with demand.

Hydrofracking uses high-pressure water to open or widen those fractures, giving groundwater more opportunity to reach the well. It is not oil and gas fracking.

Why Choose Groundwater Pros

Groundwater Pros has both single-pack and double-pack hydrofracking capability. For deeper wells, we commonly recommend double-pack treatment because it allows us to isolate and treat multiple sections of the open hole as the packer assembly is repositioned through the well. Single-pack treatment may be used on shallower wells or when that is the approach the customer chooses. Before treatment begins, we camera-inspect the well, and after hydrofracking we test pump the well and record the results.

Groundwater Pros offers both single-pack and double-pack hydrofracking, chosen based on the well. We camera-inspect before treatment and test pump afterward to record the results.

Results vary by well and are not guaranteed.

Camera Inspection First

We camera-inspect the well before hydrofracking begins. If we find a condition that means treatment should not proceed, we let the customer know before moving forward.

Double-Pack Capability

For deeper wells, double-pack treatment allows multiple sections of the open hole to be isolated and treated as the packer assembly is repositioned through the well.

Test Pumped After Treatment

After hydrofracking, we test pump the well and record its post-treatment performance.

Common Questions About Hydrofracking

It's a service for an existing well that isn't producing enough water. We use high-pressure water to open up fractures already in the rock around the well so more water can move into the well. It is a water well service, not oil and gas fracking.

Maybe — if it can't keep up with normal use, takes a long time to recover, or has always run low. Sometimes the problem is the pump or pressure system and not the well itself. Give us a call and tell us what's going on. We can help you figure out what the next step should be.

It may be worth looking at before you commit to drilling another well. Whether it makes sense depends on the well.

Single-pack uses one packer to treat a bigger part of the well at once. Double-pack uses two packers so we can isolate and treat one zone at a time. Which one fits depends on the well.

Pricing depends on the well and the treatment approach — including whether single-pack or double-pack service fits best. Pump removal and reinstallation, if needed, are separate pump-service charges billed by the foot. Call us and we can talk through your specific well.

No. Every well is different. We test pump the well afterward so you can see what it’s producing after the work.

If you have a pump in the well, it needs to come out — along with the drop pipe and wire — at least 24 hours before we get there. That clears the well for the camera and hydrofracking equipment and gives the water time to settle for a usable camera view. We can pull it and put it back afterward if you'd rather we handle it; that's billed separately, by the foot.

After we hydrofrack the well, we test pump it to see what it's producing.
