Building or Buying Property in Ellijay?

Not every property in and around Ellijay is served the same way. Some areas have public water available, while private wells are relevant for properties outside the Ellijay-Gilmer County Water & Sewerage Authority’s current service area — the Authority advises property owners without existing utilities to verify whether service is available before assuming a connection.

Gilmer County’s subdivision regulations specifically address private wells and private water systems for properties outside that service area, though eligibility still depends on the individual property and applicable state and local requirements. Before assuming how a property will receive water, it’s worth confirming what’s actually available for that parcel.

Considering a Private Well?

If public water isn’t available for your property, or you’re building on land outside the current service area, a well has to work with the rest of the site — access, septic, and what you actually need it to support. See our Water Well Drilling page for our full process, or we can talk through what a well would look like for your property.

What to Consider

  • Whether public water is available — worth confirming before assuming a well is needed.
  • Proposed well location and site conditions — terrain and where a well can realistically be placed.
  • Septic location and required separation — Georgia DPH sets minimum distances between wells and septic systems.
  • Drilling-equipment access — a practical path for our rigs to reach the site.
  • Planned water needs for the household or property going forward.

Know Who’s Drilling Your Well

Before any rig shows up on your property, it’s worth knowing who actually holds the Georgia water well contractor’s license, and whose crew and equipment will be doing the drilling. Georgia law requires a licensed contractor for private well construction, with limited exceptions such as certain landowner household or farm wells.

Groundwater Pros is a licensed Georgia water well drilling company serving Ellijay and Gilmer County. Our licensed drillers, crews, rigs, and drilling equipment are part of our own operation.

What Happens When Groundwater Pros Drills Your Well?

We start by discussing your property and the project, then evaluate practical equipment access and a suitable well location on site. From there, we drill the well and keep you informed throughout.

For the full process, cost factors, and what to expect, see our Water Well Drilling page.

Ready to Build? Your Well Shouldn’t Hold Up the Project.

Long drilling backlogs can delay construction and everything that depends on getting water to the property. Groundwater Pros owns and operates our drilling equipment and has three Georgia-licensed water well drillers, giving our team the capacity to keep multiple projects moving.

Current scheduling changes as projects are completed and added, so call us to check current drilling availability for your property.

Already Have a Well That Isn’t Producing Enough?

Not every low-yield well needs to be replaced. Groundwater Pros operates two hydrofracking rigs and camera-inspects the well before treatment begins — if we find a condition that means hydrofracking shouldn’t proceed, we let you know before moving forward. It isn’t a fit for every well, and we don’t promise a specific result. Learn more about Hydrofracking.

Pump Installation & Service

Once your well is in, we also handle pump installation, replacement, and service for the complete system.

Well Water Filtration

If water quality, taste, or staining becomes a concern, we test the water and match filtration to what’s actually there.

Ellijay Well Drilling Questions

Yes. Groundwater Pros provides water well drilling in Ellijay and throughout Gilmer County, using our own rigs, crews, and licensed drillers.

No. Availability varies by property and location. The Ellijay-Gilmer County Water & Sewerage Authority advises property owners without existing utilities to verify whether service is available before assuming a connection.

Private wells are used throughout the county, including areas outside public-water service, but the property still has to meet applicable state and local requirements — we can’t promise eligibility for a specific parcel without looking at it.

Georgia DPH sets a minimum of 50 feet from a septic tank and 100 feet from a septic absorption field, though other siting requirements may apply depending on the property.

Georgia requires private wells to be installed by a licensed water well contractor, with limited exceptions provided by law.

The Georgia EPD publishes the current list of licensed water well contractors. You can check any contractor, including Groundwater Pros, before work begins.

We can consider hydrofracking for an existing low-yield well before assuming a new well is needed. We camera-inspect the well before treatment begins, and if we find a condition that means hydrofracking shouldn’t proceed, we let you know before moving forward — it isn’t right for every well, and results aren’t guaranteed.
